The Angra Historical Soundscape Project

Angra do Heroísmo Historical Soundscape is a “work in progress” project that is being developed parallel to other works regarding the study of the historical soundscape in urban areas. Since the project has no deadline, I’ll be adding materials as they will be published.
I hope to publish regular posts here (resumed from published articles, mostly in Portuguese) focusing mostly on the city’s religious soundscape which is my area of study. However there are also other music manifestations and their impact on the city’s social and emotional space that are also planned to be studied, notably the wind band activity and other instrumental groups such as orchestras that doubled between the city’s churches and theatres.
Regarding this project, it is starting by the location of Angra and Terceira Island in the Azores archipelago, notably one of its first cartographic representations as is the case of the Cantino Planisphere.
